Top celebrities to spot in Verbier winter 2018/19
Who to look for on the star-studded slopes this season
Verbier is famous around the world for the incredible and seemingly endless skiing opportunities it offers, as well having a thriving apres-ski scene.
With such beautiful alpine charm with 5-star accommodation, gourmet restaurants and trendy nightlife, it’s no wonder that Verbier has become such a hotspot for the rich and famous. Whether you’re out on the slopes or hauled up in a chic bar in town, you’re never too far away from someone you might recognise. Here’s our list of who to look out for this winter season.
The singers
James Blunt is well-known as a Verbier regular, with the singer/songwriter owning a chalet in the town, as well as co-owning the fantastic mountain restaurant Le Vache with England rugby legend Lawrence Dallaglio and superbike racer Carl Foggarty. He even has a lift named after him, and can sometimes be seen alongside fellow musician and friend Ed Sheeran.
Pixie Lott is also a frequent visitor to Verbier, often staying in the luxury W-Hotel with boyfriend and model Oliver Cheshire. Often seen out on the slopes in her signature white ski-outfit, she’s a lover of the mountain apres and Verbier nightlife. Another famous diva to hit the slopes of Verbier was superstar Madonna, back in early 2017. She wanted a tranquil retreat with her kids and magician David Blaine, and where better to do it than in the luxury chalet ‘No14.’
The adventurer
British adventurer and TV personality Bear Grylls is another celebrity at home in Verbier, also owning a chalet and residing in resort for much of the season with his family and friends. His years spent in the SAS, as well as travelling and skiing around the world, have shaped him into a highly capable backcountry skier, tackling many of the challenging Verbier freeride and backcountry routes around resort.
The tycoon
Virgin founder and billionaire Richard Branson has his very own high-end luxury retreat in Verbier, The Lodge. Despite his riches and stunning chalet, Branson is well known by Verbier locals for being a genuinely lovely and down to earth gentleman, often frequenting the more laid back bars and restaurants in town. Last year he was spotted, pint-in-hand, in Pub Mont Fort.
The Lodge in itself has become something of a celebrity destination, with Hollywood stars often seen on the guest lists. Leonardo Dicaprio, Jude Law, and even Barack Obama have all stayed in the luxury mountain chalet, and it’s likely there’ll be more to come this season. Both The Lodge and No14 Verbier have ‘hotel’ weeks this season, where rather than booking the whole chalet, you can book a room for the week. Prices start at around £2550 per room for three nights in No14.
The royals
Possibly some of the most well-known celebrities around the world, the Royals are regular visitors to Verbier. Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson own an incredible £13 million chalet here, with Andrew living in Verbier for a large chunk of the year. In recent years Prince William and Kate have been spotted dancing away in Farinet nightclub, the town’s most exclusive bar.
With Harry last visiting in 2013, and having cancelled their trip two seasons ago, it’s likely Harry and Meghan Markle are due to Verbier sometime soon. It’s highly probable that Newly-wed Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank will make a visit this season too for a trip down memory lane, having met here in Verbier back in 2010.
