A 200 metre long avalanche on the Croix de Cœur came down over a track leading from the Savoleyres side of the resort to the Carrefour side fortunately with no victims.

The 2 metre deep & 20 metre wide avalanche covered 200 metres of slope

Ski patrol probed the area and rescue dogs were on scene but fortunately no-one was caught in the slide. The avalanche came down over a track that is normally closed when the avalanche risk is elevated, particularity when the sun has been on the face - however at the time of the incident the track was open.

Only a week ago a similar avalanche struck Verbier in the middle of the night however this time the avalanche happened at 10.30 in the morning when temperatures were sub-zero.
It is thought the avalanche could have been set-off by a skier or snowboarder but as yet this is unconfirmed.
